After much anticipation and countless months of nagging, i finally hold in my hands an almost perfect remix cd with four new stylistically ranged tracks. Considering how well “viral extinction” has been taken by fans, critics, musicians, and newcomers, this ep should be even more successful. A few remixes on this cd are actually not worth mentioning, but for the most part, many of the remixes are astonishingly brilliant and give the original tracks some very enticing twists that work with power noise, ebm, dark ambience, trance, and experimental edges.

The sheer range and ferocity of new tracks “compulsive betrayal” and “redemption (the rage)” should alone make you want to buy this inexpensive cd. The title track, “redemption (the rage)” opens with extremely fierce and enduring rhythms and harmonies that show a perfect balance of orchestrated chorus lines, harsh ebm-esq rhythms, and melodic male & female vocals. Expanding to a more furious, but intelligent nature that works and polishes the idealism behind the first album with even more precision. The vocals from both members, Ross and Miller, explore new directions not encountered on their first cd, something which is apparent on tracks such as “compulsive betrayal.” On this very powerful track we are immersed into damaging beat complexities that lead on with nicely entangled melodies, choruses, volatile vocals, and an array of vast synthetics. First heard at their last Cleveland show with A23 and Dubok, “compulsive betrayal” proves to be both a very powerful live track and club floor-friendly hit.

Moving into some of the remixes, Railgun provides a very disassembled version of “inside” which completely reorganizes tempo velocities with an array of erratic and spontaneous beats, bass phases, and melodies that utilize small elements of noise and drum ‘n’ bass. A very interesting mix to say the least.

Next Pain Station’s Scott Sturgis puts a very dark, disturbing, and interesting approach to the track “silicon skies.” Putting a somewhat similar mixed tone of his last release “cold” and harsher vocal processing techniques on both singing parties which gives the track an entire new feeling. I like this one by far over the original track.

The insane doktors Arzt & Pfusch dissect and replace the organization of elements on the awesome track “Cyberchrist.” Putting their abrasive and bouncy ebm edge onto the track making it much more menacing and a little less aggressive. Negative Format puts his new trance-electro edge to the “fallen angel”, transforming it to be very accessible for the dance floor and utilizing nice intelligent resonance looping progressions keeping r. miller paced nicely with the track’s harmonies.

Gridlock does “my savior”, need i say more. Covenant provides a very enticing old-school dance-electro mix to “inside” as well, making this another reliable mix for the club-floor, keeping with their latest sound from their “united states of mind.”

And lastly, but not least , Dubok gives a dual interpretation to the tracks “overload” and “numb”. The band used several layers of abrasive rhythmic beats structures, cold flowing strings elements, bouncy loops, cool synthetics, and vocal textures.

We close this cd with the second part of the title track, evoking more sentimentality to the song’s attitude with Rian’s beautiful clean vocals and an array of uplifting melodies and piano chorus that merges to an extreme climatic chorus handled by Mr. Ross himself. It leaves us content and excited to hear even more from these ever-expanding musicians.
