I have to admit, I have been listening to this cd for almost two months now, and now I am ready to share my experience with you. I have always regarded quench as very "technically-oriented" idm, more of a "listening" music that grabbed you most of all with the technicalities of its sound - something that I came to realize listening to quench vinyls on dub, as well as their release on u-cover.

"exclude" turned out to be a remarkable surprise. this newly "softened" sound might be due to the fact that they have landed on eat this records, known for its melodic idm output. whatever the reason is, this "new sound" combines tough crunchy percussion quench has always been famous for with nice soft melodies that any funckarma fan can warm up to. just listen to the deep melancholy of "r-akt", or sparse key sequences with a backdrop of beautiful strings on following "triton". for those of you that were drawn to heavier side of idm genre - do not fear - "exclude" is complex and layered, hitting heavily with drops of percussion.

this album has grabbed me instantly and it is one of the most addictive examples of this genre. sure, it is nothing truly original, nothing particularly unique, but overall, it is one of the best examples of this style I have heard in a while. it might be simpler than previous material, but it is a flawless combination of heavy layered percussion and precisely placed melodic elements. it still keeps its abstract nature, never descending to lush melodies or particularly catchy tunes, but overall it possesses emotional edge and sense of cohesiveness above any of the previous quench releases. I would not hesitate to call "exclude" the best quench work to date.
