music volume one and music volume two from scottish benbecula records quickly acquired a legendary status, and rightfully so. those two records featured excellent selection of idm of that most melodic kind, with strong analog influences. benbecula with its taste and selection continue the traditions of best labels in this style, namely toytronic.

recently the label has released both records on one cd, a move confirming their undeniable popularity. there simply are no bad tracks out of these 14 titles - every single one becomes instantly memorable, each having something different to offer. lush melodies are never overdone, details are intricate without being ostentatious, the overall atmosphere is slightly melancholic, dreamy and infinitely charming, evoking nostalgic past, transforming and morphing its legacy into new forms of electronica of the most exquisite kind.

there are a lot of new names, as well as long-time favorites - novel23, bauri, mr. projectile. perhaps my absolute favorites (although it is a tough decision, since I have been listening to this disk so much, each time noticing yet another detail worth mentioning) are tracks by clubbed to death, marci blaine school for girls, joni, christ (not as good as some of the tracks on his full-length), east of insanity. the list goes on and on - this is simply a compilation not to miss, truly a remarkable achievement in the world of idm.
