wasted
most of the time the hopes that I have before the release from the major music icon turn out to be wrong. and the high expectations are what makes it even more disappointing. this is pretty much true for this new and one single.
two versions of "wasted" give you enough exposure to this track that seems to be overly simplistic nowadays and strangely reminds me of kmfdm (!) material off "symbols". simple pounding beats, clean sparse keys and vocals. I guess this time the formula that previously allowed the band to release really catchy and addictive songs has failed. "forever j" is very laid-back and quite pleasant ballad that manages to overpower the feeling that "wasted" left behind.
without "maschinenhimmel" this single could be ranked as "below average", but this instrumental track with some female vocals thrown on the background could be the reason some of you should actually purchase the disk. I have to admit that this track is really catchy and its softness builds largely on both female and male vocal parts, as well as trademark and one keyboard lines. the song is nicely structured and is very elegant and dancy; it does not have the dated feeling the rest of the single is plagued with. it could be that all we are left with is old and one material that would be a constant reminder, driving the listeners away from the new sound.
