extremum
this new die form album has a feeling of completeness and definite sense of direction that did not manifest itself as clearly in the “deep inside” single. at first I just enjoyed this album not trying to classify its sound, taking it apart. the harmony of eliane’s voice and simple yet very fitting music arrangements enhanced by quite a few unusually sounding loops and sequences is something that is almost irresistible. it appears that she is trying a few different approaches to vocals. almost ethereal “transgressions” envelops you with fluid soft electronica with darker touch of philippe’s whispering vocals; “itopsia atropos” follows in the same vein, slowing things down and emphasizing richer orchestrations and melody. “suffocations” is traditionally elegant and seductive, but overall the theme seems to be a little more abstract than previous die form material, not being completely bound by earlier motives. sinister and beautiful tracks like “radiomorphism 1+,” “animal magnetism” are a good tribute to older material that at the same time manage to sound fresh, incorporating a a lot of ebm and even technoid influences mixed with a lot of cool loops and noises. meanwhile songs like “resonant magnetic source” move even further in that direction, enemphasizing fluid trancey sequences and textures that mix beautifully with edgy simpler percussion and powerful female vocals.
I was quite impressed by this album with its instant appeal. it is really solid and seems that the band knows their place in the current music scene and knows where to go from here. they are not launching into amateurish exploration of popular genres, nor do they remain with the “good old” sound. and the result is definitely worth looking into.
