Constructed in 1996 with seven previous releases, several compilations appearances and live performances under their belt, Steve and Karen Makita have provided an array of various harsh and ambient noise themes for us encounter. Natives from strongsville, ohio, this pair of noise-terrorists presents us with 17 psychotic violations for the mind. Utilizing a variety of power tools, compressors, lathes, chainsaws, bridgeports, a Roland JP8000, and several other secret sound devices, the band creates endless lo-fi textures and compositions for us to experience.
We are introduced to this madness with a foreboding track titled "fulfilling the destiny" that displays severed vocals that intertwine with a recycled power machinery cycles. The next fairly long track entails turbulent and fluid colliding textures that are aligned with several female subliminal that are not for the easily frightened. More traumatizing assaults, allied frequency barriers, and terrorizing vocals lace your senses on tracks three, four, eleven, and fourteen giving you a strong feelings or fear. track six, “myrtle hill” displays awesome static shockwaves of pain and tension, immersed vocals that pummel your senses. While others such as "sea spray" display dense static vacuums and subtle alien transmissions that represent a more ambient side of the lockwelds work. Other such as track thirteen, "recess hymn" annoy the hell out of you with pulsating frequencies and a voice over from a small child, pushing a more experimental edge to the boundaries of this cd. And others such as track sixteen, "abbeyville rd" pleasantly caress your mind with a very short but unsettling melody that practically ends the cd next to the small live excerpt that follows.
Evoked fear seems to be a key element on this release, and they do a damn good job establishing it at times. Sometimes cinematic, sometimes outright blatant assaults that proved to be an excellent way to scare off your neighbors, play in haunted houses, destroy family cookouts, or to simply admire on your own time. A band always to experience live, no matter what the circumstances!
