II
the force behind lupo di ghiaccio is piero of cazzodio's fame. my first impression of "II" - this is what latest cazzodio should have been. I was pleasantly surprised by a dense analog sound of this album that combines multiple layers of harsh electronics with piercing frequencies, rolling waves of static, massive suffocating drones, mechanized industrial noises. from the very first moments its intensity and heavy abrasive textures reminded me of first cazzodio's album. trademark "crunchiness" of sound with intense analog loops creates a peculiar atmosphere where harsh ambient is mixed with devastating industrial soundscapes. at first I was constantly referring to first cazzodio's album, craving some heavy percussion and more violent approach to music. but at the same time the ambiance of this album is far superior than atmosphere "ad negantem usum significationes".
at the same time my favorites on this album are the tracks that have some rhythmic elements. on "chirurgia del disprezzo" bass-saturated percussion crashes and rips through several layers of violent corroded electronics that is screeching, breaking and crashing through your ears. heavy corroded frequencies, spinning, drilling noises tear apart slower "memorie di giorni migliori." "artefici della nostra storia" is more atmospheric, adding some darker hollow frequencies that build behind layers of controlled static with occasional percussion crashes.
this album was a wonderful surprise after i not all that impressive "ad negantem usum significationes"; i can only welcome this comeback to thick power electronics. comparing "II" to its peers, I have to say its sound is a lot heavier, diverse and more layered than most of the bands working in this genre. although I would prefer more violent and aggressive interpretation, I have to say that this album is the most impressive example of ambient side of power electronics.
