compressed form
monolith is a solo project of eric van wonterghem (famous for his work with suicide commando and dirk ivens); "compressed form" is a collection of the crisp sharp beats and machine-like sounds, caustic percussion and occasional bass; the music has atmospheric feel and at times sounds a bit too experimental to me; most of minimalistic sound manipulations on "compressed form" fail to keep my attention for long enough - my mind starts drifting and gets lost in the repetitiveness until i suddenly realize that the track has changed without me noticing it.
"decompressed form" and "entertune converter" is as close as the album gets to fast-paced rhythm'n'noise - fast heavy repetitive beats, abrasive noise structures on the background. "the resolution" is another memorable track that changes and mutates hidden beneath the layer of repetitive beats that trick the listener into thinking that the track never changes. "protodrive five" creates a tense atmosphere with its vibrating ambience. "virtual product code" - slow thick beats and rough noisy synthline on the background; the cold ambient sound breaks and floats... this is a good disk to get acquainted with cold precise sound manipulations, but you have to be somewhat attentive and patient.
