proyecto mirage

"hands" continues to expand the range of its releases adding more technoid-sounding projects to the catalog. "mirage" comes in usual stellar packaging with minimal artwork.

it took me some time to get used to the sound of the band and understand what proyecto was attempting to do. if you are familiar with other releases on hands like orphx and winterkälte, the sound of proyecto might come as a big surprise for you. unlike other releases on the label, proyecto does not create the sound that is dark, aggressive or menacing. the combination of a wide array of funky noises, simple analog sounds, heavily distorted and processed percussion and minimal melodic passages reminds more of aphex twin's work or some of funky neutronic compositions; industrial or dark ambient roots present on other "hands" releases are absent on "mirage".

most of the songs on the album are constructed using simple minimal keyboard lines on the background and vast array of spinning out of control, clicking, colliding sounds and distorted feedback loops. excessive usage of high-pitched sounds together with funny atari-like 8-bit noises and dense feedback loops creates a distinct sound that cannot be mistaken for anything else.

my favorite tracks on the album include "robotic tears" that uses heavier percussion and lacks a lot of the funkiness of other songs; "nodiak" that seems to be the darkest song on the album that places more emphasis on synths; softer and more melodic "otto hahns laboratorium".

"mirage" could be easily placed in the experimental techno realm which might stop majority of usual label fans from enjoying this album.
