klingon 2000

s.p.o.c.k. (2000)

I guess I see this cd as more of a landmark for s.p.o.c.k. - asserting the fact that the new album is coming ("2001 a s.p.o.c.k odysssey" is in fact almost complete) and confirming their contract with bloodline. this is the first release on the new label and it upholds band's prominent position in the synth pop scene. there are no new tracks here - just several really nice mixes of famous "never trust a klingon" (originally released back in 1992!) and a single mix of "star pilot on channel k".

I cannot really speculate on the new sound of the band, since there is no new material present here. as far as remixes go, I was very impressed with art of motion remix that transformed the song making it an incredibly graceful piece with elegant passages and beautifully crafted vocals presenting a completely different perspective on this smashing dance hit.

trance version of "klingon" (danny b's worf club mix) is rather addicting as well, transformed into jumpy fast-paced piece with short sequences and standard trance hooks. more music genres are covered with danny b's phaser house cut version of the title track. warp 2 mix is yet another simple pulsing techno outtake together with slightly darker mox epoques federation mix.

all in all, definitely a smart commercial move for the label and more club-friendly material to push s.p.o.c.k. in spotlight before their upcoming release.
