always pushing forth creative turns in their very attractive power electronic engagements, john and paul healy provide us with two very alluring grooves that will keep us happy as fans of their undeniable talent. with unique graphix layout by bombthedot as usual, this is mirex's first premier 7" release.
on side a, "too2lz", somatics lays down punchy mondo step-beats while mysteriously lurking strings follow its path, creeping behind while the beats engage with more modulated patterns and shadowy synthetic devices. this track is more relaxed intent working with a more minimalist approach yet still keeping pace with solid originality that they are so well-known for.
on side b, we re-encounter remix of a earlier song from the somatics archive, "missile test", which originally was done quite some time ago for the cfet label. the direction taken provides a fresh new outlook to this track working with cross-balanced rhythms and cold string elements that pull looping patterns, bouncy bass accents, and entangled stretched wires attacks. this version is much more interesting and erratic than the original version and works nicely with its partner on side a.
this is a nice little treasure to add to your collection of somatics material at the same time introducing a new label to look forward to.
