mysterons/pineapple sponge cake

swayzak (2000)

this 12" record is yet another proof of my swayzak obsession. both tracks presented on this vinyl appeared on full-length "himawari". this record came out before the album as a promotional teaser. I suppose you do not need to get it if you have "himawari" already. for me it was more of an obsessive collector's need as well as ability to hear those tracks on vinyl.

"mysterons" features punching steady percussion and distant vocal samples have a peculiar downtempo yet slightly menacing feel that mixes well with swayzak's usual dreaminess. it floats steadily, sparkling here and there with small atonal noises. some distant chants give it a strangely exotic feel, suggesting strange and outlandish imagery.

"pineapple sponge-cake" is a flowing melodic piece that is slightly darker that usual swayzak material. it has deeper basslines and more uneasy atmosphere, still possessing elegance and charm of usual swayzak tracks.

overall, this short record was could be a nice addition to an audiophile's collection that has "himawari" already.
