dark beat planet
this is half of hypnoskull/tunnel split vinyl released by hymen. tunnel is a side-project of hypnoskull's patrick stevens joined by mieke maes that contributes female vocals (more of the distorted speaking-over-music type vocals). if you familiar with hypnoskull, you will have an idea how tunnel sounds like; it is rather hard to tell those two bands apart - tunnel might be a bit less harsh, and female vocals does make a difference making the tracks a bit more appealing.
all five tracks on this ep are based on repetitive simple nonchanging fast distorted beat (that is responsible for "hypno" in hypnoskull) and random very minimal analog distortions that pierce the music. the original version of "slow down" still seems to be better than the remixes, destroyed mix of "serial woman" presents a collage of analog sounds and scattered beats followed by darkbeat mix of "lose control" that is a more drum'n'bass-like distorted track that manages to escape hypnoskull's dominant beat pattern.
I did my best trying to listen to this ep - very loud, and very quiet, tried headphones and speakers - but nothing seems to work - nothing can remedy the repetitiveness and monotonous sound. seems like this type of music can be only taken as a part of multimedia performance or stage show; it just cannot stand on its own.
