1654 the cave I
Packaged in wonderful small black box with an informative booklet, this release introduces some of the best of the best in dark experimental and ambient electronics.
Super late on the review, but definitely one to check into to see the origins of many bands that have worked with this great label. I personally like this compilation better than “1654 The Cave II” from the same series.
Firstly, Kirlian Camera provides us with an ebm’ish mix of their original track “Eclipse”, which may sound somewhat outdated to the newcomers, but is definitely a time tester in my perspective. Sorry, but I never got into Insekt, not my thing. Next we enter Severance’s (later known as Winterkälte) “Black Night” with a driving dark electro track that keeps with elemental heavy themes similar to Yelworc’s sound. Digital Slaughter gives us brooding slow CMI’ish track with immensely distorted voxx titled “Doubts.”
Clock DVA presents a nice spacey ambient piece that drives on with simple touches of percussion and resonance frequencies. Which merges us with monolithic “Komarov” by Legion, verifying some of the best dark ambience on this compilation and in his later work.
And yet another track by Nicola Bork (Winterkälte), this time his side-project Atrum with a very distant and offworldish ambient track entitled “Universum.” Another brilliant ambient piece that explores the deepest regions of the mind. Next we move into the menacing synthetics and low noise experimentalism of “Daäth” by Nouvelles Lectures Cosmopolites. Raison D’Etre gives us a look into the chanting dark ritualism of “Chalixtins.” “As the Sun will Rise” by Ah Cama-Sotz presents a very nice tribal ambient composition that enchants the soul.
These tracks best represent the cd and stand the test of time upon the others not worth mentioning. Definitely the one for the seekers.
