depth of the beyond
This very impressive compilation displays an extensive line-up of twenty-eight unique and interesting musicians taking on their approach to dark and twisted synthetic atmospheres. Packaged in a nice plastic double cassette case with mysterious design, this release proves to be my favorite from this very promising and productive label. Featuring ah cama-sotz, gruntsplatter, baal, combat astronomy, sleeping with the earth, form/alkaline, lefthanddecision, cazzodio, deison, murderous vision, turk knifes pope, moe! staiano, cornucopia, flutter, petit mal, house of dolls, the violent grind, varix, soundsource21, zymosiz, STROM.ec, narbenerde, slowvent, CAT, rectal surgery, drool, snuff syndicate, and himrod.
On side a of the first tape we are escorted to this chamber of depths with form/alkaline’s (previously scar tissue) dark ritualistic movements of “Amanda’s Room.” Next we encounter mechanized and enslaved rhythms of deison. Murderous vision presents a disturbing atmosphere that relays light eerie organ strings, swirling vacuum apparitions, and samples that enhance this nightmare with visual and provoking “the stopping ground.” Turk knifes pope allows us to escape our fears for a moment with an introspectively surreal track entitled “temple of absence.” The next track by moe! staiano takes us through a dungeon filled with strange sound devices such as dropping tools, running machinery, and churning lathes. cornucopia attacks you with various tweaked out voice mods and spasmodic statics on “break and enter.” flutter takes this ideal even further with and array of toxic noise effects sample undertones, and totally whacked panning assaults. very weird, yet interesting to say the least. LHD takes statics discharges on a climatic movie theme with “fidelity.”
On side B we are inducted with the shadowy distant atmospheres of petit mal with the track “translucence.” Then comes the flammable and immense occult storms and surreal melodies of “demon’s seed (part 1)” by Ah Cama-Sotz. Undeniably one of the strongest tracks on this release. Gruntsplatter digs deep with brutal and foreboding layers of overcharged drones and buried melodic organ work. House of Dolls conveys a disturbing look into a child abuser’s confession (“a quiet day at home”). “psychic war 2” executed by the violent grind, pummels you with stomping abrasive rhythms and tweaked screams of a bird. varix creates a warm but abysmal environment with delayed melodics and subtle samples that also proves to be another very alluring track.
Side c of the second tape opens the ferocious combustible static assaults and colossal rhythms of “as it was” from sleeping with the earth. Cazzodio enters with a predominant and militant rhythms that are accompanied by swelling fried discharges. Zymosiz presents dense abrasive rhythms that are slowly layered with many enticing percussive additions on the track “stompers.” Strom.ec continues with broken machine-driven beats and recycled low-fi modulations. narbenerde carries on with slowly dying static undertones and decaying machinery. Slowvent takes us through several layers of transparent static barriers on “spectral ice trails.”
Side d takes us on our last journey opening with baal’s psychotic and mind-violating sampled mayhem of “radioactive dosage.” Cat sets loose some attractive crushing beat structures on a track titled “sorry.” rectal surgery provides us with somewhat primitive track that utilizes delayed robotic voice elements, static overlays, and an annoying melody. drool uses poor production statics and voice subliminals that seem more annoying than worth listening to. Snuff syndicate plays out some simple pummeling rhythms with the track “brain purge.” Himrod presents a soft touch of loungy acoustics that is annihilated by harsh avalanches of devouring static. awesome power of combat astronomy’s “communas02” provides a perfect ending to this impressive release.
