marteau de verre compilation
Finally after endless seeking I have obtained a copy of this very limited and versatile compilation. Uniquely packaged between two pieces of glass with transparent parchment sleeve and mastered by nkvd’s remy pelleschi, we are presented with nine very different artists.
Master of power rhythmic noise, winterkalte opens with a short but intense version of “structure 04” that pushes just as hard as the original with harsh modulated loop break-downs and mind-pummeling ultra beat structures.
Elektroplasma attacks with recycled percussives that are accompanied by various accents of foreign synthetics on “X-ekr.” A heavy track, but a little too repetitious, lacking textures to keep me interested. Ah cama-sotz presents a very attractive and sensibly paced track that entangles nice tribal rhythms and harmonious bass accents titled “trespassing the gates.” Another nice complimentary direction of dr. blood’s work that seems to fit in its own highly unique world.
The next track, phagz, an artist previously unknown to me, presents a powerful psychotic track, ”brown” much in the vein if somatic responses had step on beefcake’s tail. Immense bass chords that are complimented with a variety of subtle string accents, chaotic synthetic samples, and engaging rhythms.
Ultra Milkmaids slows things down and phases out with a track similar to the experimental echoing strings on “morte aux vaches.” Take their warm stringscapes underwater, add some simple rhythms and foreground resonances, and you get the sounds of “Jaff.” It adds a nice fluid edge to the cool soundscapes of Y. & R brothers.
Frigo, gives us a taste of alien analog sound devices similar to celluloïd mata’s work with the track, “SiO2.” Farmer’s manual presents a simplistic but interesting composition of soft digital textures similar to some of Oil10’s work. Goem lays down ultra-minimal beats and reversed subtle rhythms comparable to early starfish pool experimentation, making it my least favorite track on this release. Toy bizarre ends this exclusive line-up with a bleak landscape of light frequencies and atmospheres that remind me of something that might appear on on foton records. I am pleased to say I finally have this rare release in my collection.
