theta compilation

v/a (2001)

this is one of the most uniquely presented releases from mhz with some more impressive new artists that perfectly represent the actual "feel" of the packaging. this one comes packaged in an real unused (of course) blood transfusion bag with a transparent deep red tape enclosed within. much like the mhz can from the delta compilation, you actually have to open this one to listen to the tape. if you are careful enough, you can preserve the original appearance.

as always, six mature tracks are presented, four of which really overwhelmed me with their very interesting programming styles that so perfectly fit into this packaging format. of course klangstabil always presents a strong, solid direction with their intro piece to each of these compilations. here they open with energetic rhythmic composition with echoing distorted patches that almost build up a state of emergency. monstrum sepsis unfolds an extremely erratic and transitional composition that mixes an array of mysterious wavelengths and samples that burst into climatic breaks and rhythm n' noise movements with "planar projections." the most impressive highlight to my surprise comes from the likes of the third artist, unnatural bleeding with the track, "stop them." a very seductive piece that entices the mind with rash disorientated rhythms and lo-fi breaks that merge with shadowy hallucinogenic string harmonies.

on side b, floppy presents a track titled, "polymer" that would put a smile on a face of any fan of lulcio fulci, dario argento, or early john carpenter's work. using soft-paced rhythms, melancholic harmonies, and eerie lurking strings that flow aimlessly through dark unlit corridors.

as usual i can always say that MHz never seems to disappoint, and this release is worth obtaining for the packaging alone! four tracks mentioned above make it all worth your while to spend your time on this rare cassette release.
