vromb (1999)
anton · December 28, 1999

this release consists of 3" cd (act 101.3) and includes 10" picture vinyl (act 101.10). I am pleased to see the gradual progression of the band from their first release on tesco that presented typical (for that label) slow noisy ambient followed by next release - unique atmospheric "le facteur humain" where modulated frequencies played the dominant role, while structure was still something to be desired.

this time vromb releases something that quite possibly could make it to your top 10 records for 1999 (together with "murder themes & terra infernalis" by ah cama-sotz that has similar structured dark atmosphere). seems like the band gathered the best of their two previous releases. unique ambient textures where listener is immersed into whirlpool of modulated frequencies and short controlled noises are complemented with great drum programming creating a strong layered sound that mixes the best of two worlds - ambient and rhythmic dislocated percussion.

delicate cold sounds of hypnotizing 9-minute "ambiorythmie" combines multiple layers of minimal dislocated beats with processed feedback and tweaked frequencies. followed by metronome-like "pulsation" constructed around sparse percussion that gradually becomes heavier and heavier without accelerating pace of the track; the voice speaking french floats above the swirling background noises. the high tension created by collapsing frequencies, controlled noise charges and dark pulsing beats on "electro 01" is balanced by calm male voice speaking french over the music layers.

intricate and minimal, unique and hypnotizing, this release will satisfy any fan of cold and intelligent ambient and power electronics.
